For the 2015 Annual International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Conference at Las Vegas, the theme is “Expanding the Spectrum of Emergency Management” .

Recent events have proven that the tried and true measures are no longer sufficient. Existing resources, partnerships and connections are stretched beyond capacity. Insanity is repeating the same action and expecting a different outcome. What are we going to do differently?

Robert Frost wrote, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” The title of Robert Frost’s poem is The Road Not Taken and that is what IAEM organizer hoped all of the attendees will do. Do not take the road that is known to you simply because it is the easier option.

As the premier association for emergency managers, IAEM recognizes how vast and complex our evolving field is but encourages everyone to acknowledge that there is always something to learn and to change. Robert Frost tells us to take an unfamiliar path. IAEM is telling the attendees that we can take this unfamiliar path together.
